Overlook 2008, United State of America’s banking crisis raised the world economy crisis which 25 banks went bankruptcy and Q1 2009 have another 23 bank closed down. It tightens the creditability in all industries and business which caused a certain level of difficulties to the business operation. It also affects the stainless steel industry badly. According to preliminary figures announced by the International Stainless Steel Forum, the world stainless steel production reached 25.9million tones in 2008, which 6.9% lower than in 2007.

By the third quarter, the financial and economy crisis combined with a dramatic drop in raw material prices stunk slightly. Due to overstock and lessening of excess inventories brought at inflated prices and a complete stop of purchase by distributors and end users, in a matter of short time the industry moved from a bright future to a depressing atmosphere.

Early 2009, the downturn in demand for steel has been sharpening than expected and there is no sign of a recovery at present. This week, the markets have shown a clear upward direction in stainless production, but the trend is unlikely to be a sustained in the given current economic climate yet. To keep neutrality, we would like to see the market trend for the next week in all perspective, but not just stainless steel industry only. If strong in demand, then we would expect to see the market to be rise again.
